#25 - Synthesis — Resilience, Suffering, and the Human Spirit

1. Prompt (choose one or assign): A. How do these writers suggest a person can remain human—and even unbroken in spirit—when suffering cannot be explained or undone? Use two or three texts. B. Compare two definitions of resilience in this unit (for example, Job’s “my Redeemer lives” and Henley’s “captain of my soul,” or Dickinson’s civil acceptance and Job’s lament). Which account of the human spirit is more complete, and why? C. STAAR-style ECR: Explain how authors use imagery and structure to develop a theme of resilience. Use evidence from two selections.

2. 10-minute plan: Claim, two/three evidence cards, craft to name (personification, rhetorical questions, metaphor, meter, juxtaposition of restoration and irreparable loss).

3. Write: 25–35 minutes. Enforce ATC in every body paragraph. Academic voice. Present tense for literature.

4. Spoken close: Each student states claim in one breath. Optional: two volunteers read a paragraph.
