Integrity under pressure: Close-read Job 1:20–22 and 2:9–10. Define integrity in context. Wife’s line as foil. Students write: Is silence a form of resilience, or the pause before a cry?

Chapter 3 as poetry of lament: Read selected lines of the curse of birth. Mark anaphora, darkness imagery, and the wish that time itself be undone. Contrast with Dickinson’s calm chronology.

Pair writing: How do Dickinson and the Job of ch. 1–3 each answer the first shock of mortality or loss? Use one quote from each text.
