Assignment Activities

1. Catalog of the whirlwind: In pairs, list images (foundations, morning stars, storehouses of snow, constellations, the hunt of the lion, the ostrich, war horse, Behemoth, Leviathan). Categorize: cosmos / weather / beasts. What is the pattern?

2. Rhetorical question workshop: Choose three questions. For each: What does it assume Job cannot do? What does it imply about the speaker of the whirlwind? What happens to Job’s lawsuit?

3. Perspective shift graphic: Before/after map: Job’s frame (my case, my wounds, my friends) vs. whirlwind frame (where were you when…?). Link to Dickinson: the speaker thought she was the center of the carriage; the horses’ heads were toward eternity all along.

4. Socratic 12 minutes: Does a larger perspective heal suffering, or only reframe it? Evidence only from texts we have read.
